TeamWox HelpAdministrationConnection

Connection

This tab displays information about the network connection of the TeamWox server. That information allows to diagnose problems that appear while working with the system over the internet.

Connection

The "Refresh" button located at the top of the tab is intended for the manual re-reading of information about the network connection. The graphical scheme of connection to the internet is displayed below. The IP address is shown for each part of the chain.

Further the text messages about the network connection are displayed. The Show description button is located near each of them.

Access of the System to the Internet

The first line contains the information about the type of connection of the TeamWox server to the internet: directly, via gateway or via proxy server. A server that is not connected to the internet cannot work with external resources and receive updates. In this case, the following messages is displayed:

  • The server is not connected to the Internet

In this case it is recommended to check the settings of internet connection of the computer where the system is installed.

  • The server is connected to the gateway, but can't connect to the Internet

This message means that connection to the internet is performed via a gateway, but at that the connection through it was not established. it is necessary to check the gateway settings.

In case of absence of the internet connection the other messages here are insignificant and are displayed with the gray color.

Conformity of Domain Name and IP Address

For users to work with the system over the internet its domain name must correspond with the external static IP of the computer where it is installed. If the IP address does not correspond, the following message is displayed - "The domain name domain name doesn't corresponds to your external IP address address". It is displayed in the following situations:

  • Using of internal routing
If the TeamWox server is installed in a local network and doesn't have a static IP address and the connection to the internet is performed through a proxy server/gateway, then the domain name of the system must correspond with the IP address of the proxy server/gateway. In this case there is no problem with working in the system over the internet.
  • DNS server is not adjusted or wrong internal routing
If the conformity of the domain name and the external IP address of the server where the system is installed (proxy server/gateway) is not specified at the DNS server, then it is not possible to work with the system over the internet.
This message can also appear if the routing of external requests to the TeamWox server is set incorrectly at the gateway/proxy server.

Conformity of Certificate to Security Policy

For the correct operation of the public component of the "Chat" module and for working with documents through the WebDAV protocol, the certificate installed in the system must conform the security policy. In case it doesn't comply, one of the following messages appears:

  • SSL certificate does not match the domain it is used on

This message appears if the installed certificate is issued for a domain name that differs from the one where the system is installed. In this case, you can pass the procedure of reissuing certificate or reinstall the system at the corresponding domain name.

  • SSL certificate was issued by a non-trusted CA

This message appears if the installed certificate is not included in the list of trusted ones in the operating system. One of such certificates is MetaQuotes Software CA, the one installed on default. In this case you can order a certificate from one of the trusted certificate authorities, or add the installed certificate to the list of trusted ones on the computers of each user.

Access to the System From the Internet

On default the connection to the system is performed through port 443 using the HTTPS protocol. This protocol is secured and encrypted. If the possibility of such connection is not available, the following messages will be displayed:

  • Port 443/HTTPS/SSL of the server is closed for access from the Internet
In this case the TeamWox system cannot receive incoming requests from the internet. The cause of it can be wrong settings of the gateway.
  • Port 443/HTTPS/SSL is closed for Chat
This message means the requests of the public component of the "Chat" module cannot be received through the HTTPS protocol. The reason can be the wrong setting of the gateway or the disabling of access to the public services in the system security settings.
  • Port 443/HTTPS/SSL is closed for Service Desk requests
This message means the requests of the public component of the "Service Desk" module cannot be received through the HTTPS protocol. The reason can be the wrong setting of the gateway or the disabling of access to the public services in the system security settings.

SSL certificate is used for the system to work through the secured connection. Initially, a certificate issued by the unauthorized certification center MetaQuotes Software CA is installed in the system. This certificated is self-signed; browsers don't trust it and show the corresponding warnings to the users. Also that certificate cannot be used when working with the public components of the "Chat" and "Service Desk" modules.

The possibility of receiving requests from the public components through 80 port using the unsecured HTTP protocol is implemented for the situations when a self-signed certificate is used. If this feature is unavailable, the following messages appear:

  • Port 80/HTTP of the server is closed for access from the Internet
In this case the TeamWox system cannot receive incoming requests using the HTTP protocol. The cause of it can be wrong settings of the gateway.
  • Port 80/HTTP is closed for Chat
This message means the incoming requests of the public component of the "Chat" module cannot be received through port 80 using the HTTP protocol.
  • Port 80/HTTP is closed for Service Desk requests
This message means the incoming requests of the public component of the "Service Desk" module cannot be received through port 80 using the HTTP protocol.
Besides the wrong gateway settings, the reason of appearing of these messages can be:

To re-read the information about the network connection after changing its settings, one should press the "Refresh" button located at the top of the tab.
